New research on the principle of public access as a barrier to patentability

September 2026.
Katarina Halldin has written a very interesting master thesis in intellectual property law at Uppsala University under the supervision of our colleague Professor Bengt Domeij. The thesis examines the tensions in Sweden reagrding the principle of public access as a barrier to patentability. The thesis was defended during the spring semester of 2026.
The thesis is highly relevant considering the decision by the government to launch an inquiry on the matter of strengthening the protection of information related to research and innovation (Dir 2026:15).
We asked Katarina to write an english summary of the thesis, which can be found here.
